One more IDP school was repaired under the support of Japan Embassy
On December 27’ 2004 “Umid” Humanitarian
and Social Support Center held the opening ceremony on the completion of
the project to improve educational facilities and the livelihood of the
IDPs populated in the administrative building of the Iron-Concrete Plant
#1 of Sumgait at Gubadli region Farjan rural school within the framework
of the “Grass roots and Human Safety” Grant Programme of Japan Governance.
The project covering approximately 65 000 US dollars was launched in
March, this year under the funding of Japan Embassy. The goal of the
project included renovation and repair of Farjan Village Secondary School
where 129 refugees and IDPs from Gubadli and Zanghilan are settled.

Mr. Toyoshi
Matsuyama, the assistant of extraordinary ambassador of Japan in
Azerbaijan, Mr. Gurban Sadigov - the Chief of Work with Refugee, IDP
problems, Migration, and Work with International Organizations Department
of Cabinet of Ministers, representatives of Sumgayit and Gubadli ExComs,
UNHCR, mass media and IDPs settled in the area attended the ceremony.
The following activities were implemented within the framework of
the project:

The
roof of the building was replaced with the new one;

The
school was entirely repaired (3 schoolrooms were repaired, 9 schoolrooms,
1 teachers’ room and principal’s room were rehabilitated);

Stairs and corridors were repaired within the building;

The
library was rehabilitated;

Electricity, water and sewerage system, as well as electric lines of the
building were rehabilitated;

doors and 96 windows were replaced with the new ones in the building;

School’s entrance was rehabilitated;

lavatory was constructed.
All
the schoolrooms were provided with the necessary equipment.
