Communities Seeking for Talents:
Talents on the Path of Growth

Etimad was the first community of Zykh
Community Development Initiative (ZCDI) Project in the intervention area.
It was the very community where Umid HSSC?s staff members shared their
information on the project implemented under the funding of BP (Shah Deniz)
and encountered with the ice of disbelief. It was the very community whose
successes and initiatives later were the main topics of intercommunity
integration meetings.
What is the object making Etimad community so initiative, encouraging it
to active participation in community events, after all? Is it because of
the sincerity and confidence displayed by Umid HSSC's staff during the first
community meetings, propaganda conducted for the communities during the
process, or trainings arranged to ensure technical support to communities?
The advantageous role of the above counted factors are evident in
community development process, but direct and indirect impact of the
latter over community members developed their necessary skills and thus
created better opportunities for all-round community development.
Aflatun Verdiyev is an obvious sample of the
adolescents, to whom the ZCDI project assisted to successfully develop his
capacities. He was born in Minkend village of Lachin region. Later as most
of the IDPs, he had to leave his favorite village and was settled in the
current ZCDI project intervention area. Community votes for electing him
as an action team member, later the support provided by his community and
Umid HSSC created new opportunities for his further development. Trainings
that have proved their value in practice conducted by the center did not
stay ineffective - he improved his inherent capacities, background, logic,
as well as skills acquired for project elaboration and management as a
whole. Aflatun also is an active initiator of support to community
initiatives beside to infrastructure development projects implemented by
his community. Aflatun Verdiyev has been the author of the first project
in the ZCDI intervention area realized wholly by the community itself
under technical support of Umid HSSC. The project implemented by Aflatun
proved the value of the idea of resigning Umid?s commitments to the CAT in
practice.
Umid HSSC's mobilization officers had a discussion with the community members
on the topic Necessity of Identifying the Special Talented Community
Members. Aflatun having attended the discussion, launched his survey and
assessment in his community, then in the whole ZCDI project intervention
area. He tried to figure out about the capacities, special abilities of
the interested community members, direct them towards ZCDI project.
Grounded upon the outcomes of his assessments he developed a project
proposal and submitted it to Umid HSSC. The proposal realized after
donor?s confirmation was devoted to Azerbaijan Youths? Day as one of the
events implemented within the framework of Communities Are Seeking
Talents campaign of ZCDI project. On February 02, 2005 Aflatun Verdiyev
realized a very pivotal program in the surrounding area of Textile Complex
named after Z.Tagiyev. The program whose number of attendees exceeded 280
people, introduced the below mentioned community talents more better than
any great orators would do. Actually, the program was an unrepeated
exploration for the community they became aware of their power:

Kamil Hasanbayov (Ughur community) is a
student of Vocational Lyceum # 1. Owns much interest for Arts, especially
for poetry. He lost both parents and has no next-of-kins or relatives in
Baku. He is currently inhabited at Lyceum Dormitory. It is his first
performance on the large scene.

Arzuman Abdullayev (Ughur community) was born
in Lachin region in 1989. At the age of 9 he entered to Eastern Music
Department of Music-School in Lachin. Arzuman was the winner of ?Gonche
2000? music festival in 2000 for the first time. In 2001 he was the winner
of music festival arranged amongst the IDP regions. Then he won the first
place at the Festival of Turkish Speaking Nations arranged in Kazakistan.
In 2003 he had a performance in France and he returned home with his
favourite prize. He has won more than 20 Honorary Decrees and Diplomas up
to now. At present he proceeds his musical education in Music-School named
after Bul-bul. He was written about in the book named ? Azeri Youths ?
Azeri Future? published by Publishing Studio of Azerbaijan Ministry of
Youth, Sports and Tourism.

Rashid Garayev (Ughur) is the winner of
Republican Review Contest named ? Looking for Talents?, The winner of the
Music Competition named ? Our Fatherland ? Azerbaijan? devoted to The
Solidity day of World Azerbaijanis, where the singers of folk music,
composers? songs, eastern music, vocal singers were competing. He attended
at the eastern Music Festival held by ?Kainat? Youths center with the
support of Azerbaijan Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism, and is the
winner of the festival named under the title ?Garabagh ? My Proud, My
Pain? arranged by the Movement named ?On Behalf of Azerbaijan?.

Konul Nadirova (Etimad) is developing her
capacities at the Eastern Music Course in Culture Club of the Textile
Complex;

Elchin Gasimov (Etimad) is the youngest growth
of Eastern Music;

Mubariz Ismayilov (Etimad) graduated from
Azerbaijan University of Arts, and teaches at Department of Eastern Music
at the Textile Complex. He assists majority of youths to develop their
capacities and acquire music skills. Mubariz is the winner of festival
named ?Garabagh Bulbulleri?(?The Nightingales of Garabagh?).

Elmaddin Vahabov (Birlik) ? expresses his
feelings in meykhana (national folk verse).

Arzu and Zaur Mammadovs are the IDPS from
Shusha. They develop ther capacities in the circle ?Garabagh Bulbulleri?.

?Nitg? Rhythm Group is activating at Culture
Club of Textile Complex. Its program item which displayed ?Azerbaijan
Composition? caused much interest of the audience.
Yes, Aflatun Verdiyev introduced the talented
adolescents to the ZCDI project intervention area, while he developed his
capacities by the project progress. Attending the trainings conducted by
Umid HSSC this young intellectual acquired necessary skills on community
mobilization, teamwork and leadership, proposal writing, usage of funds
and having appropriate documentation, as well as representation.
The realized Support Community Initiatives Projects created advantageous
stimulate for sustainable development of both Aflatun and his Community
and also the other communities and leaders of he intervention area. The
development owns a pivotal role as its grounded upon the factors which
will be further useful for community leaders for a long time.
