‘Umid’ HSSC has
constructed a school building consisting of 3 classrooms, a library and a
community room in Khalaj rural school within the framework of “Education
for Development” project it implements under financial support of UNHCR.
As there was a lack of classrooms in Khalaj rural school continuing its
activity in Sumgayit town after occupation of Gubadly region in 1993, the
construction of primary classrooms has begun in the school since June’
2006.
Members of Teacher-Parent Association created in the community, community
actors and community members helped much during the construction of the
classrooms.
The community room and classrooms were supplied with necessary education
facilities (whiteboards, table, chairs, cases) and school-kits.
School bags were
presented to 55 school children who entered the 1st grade in 2006.

15 800 AZN were spent for construction of and designing the school and
supply of it with education facilities. 4808 AZN (3368 AZN in cash, 1440
AZN by labour) out of this amount were contributed by the community.
Beside Khalaj school there were undertaken repair-construction works in 9
classrooms and 3 community rooms in Gubadly region Aligulushagy, Ishigly
rural schools and Jabrail region secondary school #6
In the above-mentioned schools 3 TPAs were created and skills of the TPAs
developed. They were involved in the process of repair and construction of
the school active in communities. The goal was to involve the community
members through TPAs in active participation during addressing the
problems existing in the location, to ensure the creation and development
of a Community Fund, and to assist in establishment of intra-communities
relations and relations with donor organizations.
