4 İDP schools in Sumgayit were repaired and
reconstructed

4 IDP schools in Sumgayit were repaired and
reconstructed and supplied with proper equipments in the frame of
“Education for Development” project realized by the financial support of
UNHCR and local NGO -“Umid” Humanitarian and Social Support Centre in
2005. On this occasion, there was hold opening ceremony in Lachin, school
#21 ,on September 15.
Lachin school #21 is situated in Sumgayit Sarigaya housing area. About 400
IDPs are educated in the school. The lack of classrooms was the problem.
Aluminum plant administrative building that wasn’t used was repaired on
the community’s initiative and 2 classrooms and a community room are on
IDP’s use.
90 elementary class
pupils from Gubadli, Lachin, Jebrail districts will be educated here from
today in 2 turns.
Mr. William Tall, The Country Director of UNHCR/Azerbaijan, Mr.Gurban
Sadigov, chief of IDPs problems, migration and international organizations
relations department of Azerbaijan Republic Ministers Cabinet Office
Refugees, representatives of Sumgayit city Executive Power, and Lachin
district educational department and municipalities, IDPs settled down in
that area took part in the opening ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony schoolchildren performed with artistic program.
