Gulaband
Community were provided with potable water
Gulaband village, Ujar region,
Azerbaijan, July 04, 2006
On July 4, a
ceremony was arranged related with putting into operation the Water
Purification Units in Gulaband community of Ujar region.
The ceremony was
realized within “Improvement of provision of potable water” project
implemented by “Umid” Humanitarian and Social Support Center and Gulaband
community under financial support of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC Co.) and
South Caucasian Pipeline (SCP Co.) Partners under Community Investment
Program (CIP).
Water of Upper Shirvan Channel currently used by the population was given
to them after purification through modern water purification units to be
installed by the organization of Aquatech selected through a bid.

In order to purify
the water which was used by communities, with new purification units
working with ultra-violet rays, available and comfortable for usage by
communities, the aryk water of Yukhari Shirvan channel being used by Ujar
region Gulabend village population was purified through modern water
purification units installed by Aquatech - implementing organization
selected on a bid and was given as pure water to the population.
Community
contribution of the project general amount of which is 21 003 AZN ,
covers 3096 AZN. In addition, 8560 AZN was spent for
purchasing equipment and 9347 AZN for construction works
Quality of water
purified through water purification units was analyzed by MediClub Company
and according to view of the Company the purified water answers norms.

Management of installed Water Purification Unit and ensuring
sustainability of its utilization in future was undertaken by “Shefa.Q”
Limited Liability Company registered in a relevant department of Ministry
of Justice.
The event was
attended by Mr. Dan Bliss, Community Programs Manager and the other
representatives BTC/SCP Company, A.Mehdiev, the First Deputy Head of ExCom
of Ujar region, management and specialists of Goychay Regional Department
of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Recourses, Management of local
Water Office, representatives of “Azersu”, United Water Channel
Department, as well as by leaders and members of neighboring communities.
