Umid HSSC held a workshop on “Business Ethics and Relations” in Guba

Umid HSSC held its next summer workshop devoted to “Business ethics and Relations” in Guba on June 09-10, 2006.

The workshop aimed at improvement of work quality of both material and human resources of the organization, and representation and protection of the organization’s image as it deserves, and establishment of business and efficient relations among Umid HSSC’s teams.

During the workshop information was provided about Ethics, Business relations, Telephone and Business etiquette, Ethical habits, and group works arranged around the topics.

In addition to Umid HSSC employees, Shah Deniz, BTC and International CHF Org. representatives attended the workshop as well.

 

 

USAID Community Development Program

Target area of the project is north-east regions of the Republic - Devechi, Guba, Gusar and Khachmaz regions.
During last 3 months selection of new communities in the region in accordance with the project strategy was the main target. Assessments were made in 31 communities in Devechi, Khachmaz , Guba, and Gusar regions corresponding to evaluation of 121 applications accepted from communities, and according to total outcomes 10 communities were involved in the Program. (Devechi –Gandab, Shahnezerli, Khachmaz—Garachay Jek, Ashagi Zeyid, Khudat, Guba—Hajihuseynli, Amsar, Gusar –Gusar river right bank, Hasangala, Piral).

In newly involved communities Wide Community Meetings were held and Community Development Councils selected.
Each community was provided with “Community Mobilization” training, and with “Long-term Economical Development Plan-I” (LEDP) trainings with the purpose of formation general view in Community a Development Councils and community members, and identification of further activity plan and ideas in economical and social direction. During the trainings the communities acquired information about local economical development, developed a map of its internal resources, got theoretical knowledge on analysis and assessment of perspective projects for mitigation of community challenges.

Contracts were signed upon projects submitted by Mollaburhan, Sayad, Yalama, II Nugadi, Ashagi Atuj, Zardabi communities involved in the program during initial period of the performance and implementation of the projects started.
Round Tables, consultations and community meetings were continued in direction of community development in target areas. According to the program goal, relations between communities and local municipality and executive bodies were fixed, and joint cooperation wills strengthened.
 

 

Support to Environmental and Energy Initiatives

Implementation of the project started since May of 2006.

Main target area of the project is communities along Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Southern Caucasian Pipeline communities.

The following objectives are scheduled within the project:

  • Deliver on-location awareness-raising for communities, regarding better management/utility of their own environmental and energy issues in a safe and sustainable manner;

  • Demonstrate the long term cost-savings/income-generating potential of sound resource/ environmental management and alternative energy use;

  • Provide technical assistance and financial support for the establishment of pilot energy/environmental projects at the community level in select communities to serve as demonstration models for further replication.

 

Education for Development
Apprenticeship Programme for IDP youth, economic opportunities extension and Logistical Support for vulnerable IDPs in Azerbaijan


The project is a follow-up of the activity implemented by financial support of UNHCR in 2002-2005 for promoting integration of IDPs living in Sumgayit and in surrounding areas densely populated by IDPs.

Improvement of the education conditions

For improvement of primary education condition , raising education level, and increasing parental initiative in IDP schools in Sumqayit and surrounding settlements repair and restoration works began in 4 schools –Gubadli region Ishigli, Khalaj and Aligulushagi rural secondary schools, and Jabrail region secondary school #6. Community members take close and active part in implementation of repair and restoration works .

Community Development

Initial stage of the community mobilization was undertaken in communities Gubadli region Ishigli, Khalaj and Aligulushagi rural secondary schools, and Jabrail region secondary school #6 corresponding to the project objectives. In the communities Initiative Groups were created, Teacher-Parent Associations formed. Within the project it is scheduled to conduct trainings on community mobilization of communities, capacity building of community members. Besides, implementation of infrastructure projects is scheduled in 8 communities on account of Inter-communities Mutual Assistance Fund.

In target communities 36 round tables were conducted on 13 topics. The key topics were as follows:

  • Community Fund;

  • Community Contribution;

  • Activity Plan of CAG;

  • Problems of the modern education;

  • Teacher-parent-pupil relations;

  • Community role in protection of environment.

9 trainings were conducted in communities for increase knowledge and capacity building of the community actors on “Community Mobilization”, “Team work and leadership“, “Community Fund Management” , “Needs Assessment and project proposal writing” .

Economic opportunities extension

For the purpose of providing the IDP youth with vocational skills throigh apprenticeship method, increasing entrepreneurship and business opportunities, supporting entrepreneurship, 30 IDP youth acquired vocational skills on fields of their own choice, including mobile phone repairs, auto–metal-craftsman, welding, engine-repair, blaksmith-painter, hairdresser’s and barber, photo-video, dressmaker’s.

Logistical Support for vulnerable IDPs in Azerbaijan

Non-food humanitarian relief items (quilts, medical hygienic kits, sewing kits, school kits, clothes for children and women, sweaters, layettes) were distributed among 3323 families in Sabirabad, Kurdamir, Khanlar, Ganja and
Sumqayit by Umid HSSC based on a plan agreed between UNHCR and the Government of Azerbaijan according to the “Guidelines on allocation, documentation, division and distribution of humanitarian relief items in Azerbaijan”. Besides it, “Aran”, “Sulh”, Agro Information Center, NGO Forum, Organization “Buta” were unloved in distribution of the humanitarian relief items.
 

 

Zykh Community Development Initiative

Community Development

Conducting trainings and consultations intended for increasing knowledge and skills of community members of Community Activity groups on different topics related with the community work, and ensuring them benefit by this knowledge in their activities.

Within April-June 23 round tables were conducted and 117 meetings held on different topics together with Community Activity Group members.

Besides, community members were provided with 10 health trainings regarding to seasonal diseases as well as with “Fundraising” trainings.

Support to Community Initiatives

The second stage of the English language courses arranged within Support of Initiatives component for raising the English language abilities of the bachelor and master’s degree students of Oil Academy, was successfully completed and the students having finished the courses awarded with certificates.

At the same time the attendees of the computer courses organized for Zykh community members were awarded with certificates as well.

In the kindergarten #288 of Khatai region 1st of June “Children’s Protection Day” was celebrated by Ulduz community. The event was attended not only by children bringing up in the kindergarten #288, and also the children of the kindergarten #312 located in the same area, children from SOS Child Village as well as vulnerable and DP families’ children.

Economic Opportunities Extension
Apprenticeship Courses

During a period of April-June 16 young people from vulnerable and underprivileged families living in the target area were involved in vocational trainings organized through Apprenticeship method on fields such as hairdressing and barber, dressmaking, welding, cosmetology, mobile phone repairs and make-up classes.

In addition to this, 16 youth acquired vocational skills on painting, manicure-pedicure, hairdressing, and dressmaking fields and awarded with certificates.

Business Development Services

In April, May and June “Small Business ” trainings were conducted related with business development services with participation of 59 people including apprentices involved in vocational trainings organized through Apprenticeship method and on-the-job trainers. A monitoring made in business points with a view to track the impact of the trainings once more proved efficiency of the gained practice.

Meetings were held with entrepreneurs who launched own business newly in the target area , their needs identified and provided with business consultations.

The consultations covered the topics such as calculation of expenses, information on business plan, notion of credit and grant, simplified tax, record-making, book of record and record.

Development of Infrastructure

Projects “Mini stadium construction” (by Dogru Yol community ) and “Creation of modern library” (by Ughur community) were completed and presented in an opening ceremony arranged in the target areas. The ceremony saw the participation of community members, and representatives of Khatai region ExCom and Shah Deniz Company.



At present the following projects are being implemented by initiative of communities:

  • Ulduz community - “Building a Community Resource Center”

  • Inam community- “Repair of Water Pump Station”

  • Hagigət and Birlik communities - “Improvement of ecological environment in the community”

  • Hagigat community - “Rehabilitation of roads inside the community”

  • Nargila and Ulduz communities - “Improvement of ecological environment in the community”

  • Nargila community - “Renovation of the district”

 

Logistics and vocational Training assistance for refugees and asylum-seekers in Azerbaijan

The project aims at providing asylum -seeker youth with vocational and computer skills through apprenticeship method.
With this purpose 31 youth from Chechnya, Afghanistan, Pakistan republics are acquiring vocational skills in Baku on fields of their own choice, including cosmetology, hairdresser’s and barber, confectioner, programming, video-operator, auto–metal-craftsman, mobile phone and TV repairs.

5 Chechen citizens completed the computer courses which had begun since March and were awarded with certificates. At present 12 people are acquiring basic skills on MS Windows, Ms word, Ms Excel and MS Internet Explorer programs in computer courses.

 

Improvement of Potable Water Provision

On July 4, 2006 a ceremony was held related with turning over exploitation the Water Purification Units in Gulabend community of Ujar region within the project.

Aryk water of Yukhari Shirvn channel used by Ujar region Gulabend village population was purified through modern water purifiers installed by Aquatech, the implementing organization selected on bid, and given to the usage of population as pure water.

3096 AZN of the project general amount of which is 21 003 AZN is a community contribution. 8560 AZN out of the general amount was spent purchasing equipment, and 9347 AZN for construction works.

Quality of water purified by water purifiers has been analyzed by MediClub Company and according to the company , the purified water meets norms.

The event was attended by Mr. Dan Bliss, the Community Programs Manager of BTC/SCP Company, and the other representatives of BP, Mr. A.Mehdiyev, the first deputy of head of Ujar region ExCom, Management and specialists of Goychay Regional Department of Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Management of local Water Office, representatives of “Azersu” United Water Channel Department, leaders and members of neighboring communities.

“Shafa G.” Limited Liability Company registered in a relevant department of the Ministry of Justice will ensure running and further sustainable exploitation of the installed Water Purifier.

In other communities including Sigirly, Karrar village, Karrar settlement (Kurdamir region) and Orta Leki (Ujar region) installation of Water Purifiers is under completion. In above-mentioned communities Limited Liability Companies were formed and registered in relevant department of the Ministry of Justice for ensure sustainable exploitation of the installed Water Purifiers in future.

 

Capacity Building of NNGOs

Umid HSSC successfully implemented USAID-funded project “Capacity Builing of NNGOs“ under technical support of World Learning Inc.

The purpose of the project is to develop organizational capacities of the local non-governmental agencies working with International Medical Corps (IMC). With this purpose Umid HSSC provided organizational capacity building trainings on 3 modules to 24 representat6ives from 7 NGOs:

  • Organizational Management (3 days)

  • Development of project proposals and reports (3 days)

  • Financial Management (3 days)

Venues for the trainings were Baku Business Center, Absheron Hotel and Irshad Hotel.

For motivation of high spirit among the training participants and ensuring them perceive the information efficiently, and for promoting establishment of relations between them and potential agencies, Umid HSSC arranged for representatives of NNGOs visits to Caspian Energy Center and Ateshgah museum.

After the trainings National NGOs were provided with consultations by Umid HSSC experts on Information Strategy, Finance, Logistics, Human Resources.

On July 14, 2006 a ceremony was held in Baku Business Center with participation of representatives of World Learning Inc. and International Medical Corps and 24 training attendees related with the project start and awarding certificates to participants.

 


Community Investment Program

On June 7, 2006 Save the Children Org. and “Umid” HSSC jointly organized a “Support from a child to a child” Charity Event in SOS Ganja Child Vllage.

During the event 9 young apprentices who acquired vocational skills by Apprenticeship method within the framework of Community Investment Program, as well as 5 on-the-job trainers who taught the youth, delivered their services to 16 children and 5 mothers and aunts living in SOS Ganja Children Village .

The event aimed at creation chances for apprentices acquired vocational skills to be known in the area, ensuring the youth practice knowledge and skills they gained on relevant fields, filling the youth and beneficiaries with charity ideas and referring the youth to acquire social habits for selection a profession in future, and delivery of hairdressing and barber services for the children living in SOS Ganja Children Village.

The Charity Event was attended by representatives of BTC, BP company, Save the Children, “Hayat” organization, “Agro Information Center”, as well as members of Nemetabad (Yevlakh), Eyvazlilar (Goranboy), Yuxari Aghasibayli (Samukh), Saloghli (Agstafa) communities.

Within the project 30 youth were awarded with certificates and equipments necessary for launching their initial activity.

10 youth who are keen to launch ownership activity and make own business were provided with funds.
